Stem Engagement

Stem Engagement

In-Comm is passionate about STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Manufacturing) engagement and ensuring we are showcasing potential career routes into industry to primary and secondary school students across Shropshire.

We need to educate and inspire young people on the vast opportunities there is available when you ‘make things’, the technology you can get to grips with and the positive difference you can make in society. Just recently, one of our apprentices has been leading production on parts for vital ventilator equipment for example.

With this in mind, we have developed a number of initiatives to help prospective students to gain an insight into the 40 different apprenticeship routes that we offer at the Walsall technical academy.

A lot of the content is in the process of being moved online following the restrictions we are operating under during the COVID19 pandemic. STEM Engagement will go on!

Career Launchpad

Despite the dramatic economic impact of Covid-19, there’s still lots of career opportunities for young people out there and we’re going to help you find them through a series of Career Launchpad webinars (starting from June 17th).

We want to cut through the media hysteria and all the white noise, to give you and your parents/guardians all the information you’ll need to make informed decisions on the next stage of the learning journey and how apprenticeships can deliver an £100,000 opportunity.

The first of a series of webinars will offer an introduction to MCMT and In-Comm Training, the 40 Trailblazer apprenticeships we deliver and an insight into what make us one of the UK’s leading training providers.

You will be able to take an exclusive virtual tour around our £4m state-of-the-art Training Academy in Bridgnorth featuring dedicated CNC machining zones, the latest metrology technology and industry-leading automation.In-Comm experts will talk you through the Apprenticeship journey, how you can progress to secure a degree and the world class employers you could potentially be working for…big names like Bridgnorth Aluminium, Doncasters and Grainger & Worrall, not to mention exciting SMEs, such as Billcarr, Ironbridge Gorge Museum and SDE Technology.

Two of our apprentices will also be on the webinar to give you the ‘warts and all’ view and how they have used vocational learning to get started on their career path.

STEM Challenges

In-Comm has developed a range of STEM Challenges whilst our students are working remotely. They have been created to connect you to a range of companies and will offer you a platform to demonstrate your skills across engineering and manufacturing, allowing you to explore which sectors you are most suited to.

We have now released six STEM Challenges. The challenges have been released in two parts and are linked to six local companies to support you in exploring the various companies and engineering sectors in your area.
